Pete has worked on boats since he was 15-years-old. He lives in Te Anau and works in the fiords as a commercial fisher and skipper for charter vessels. He is also a very keen recreational fisher and hunter.
Not surprisingly, Pete has extensive knowledge of and experience pertaining to coastal Fiordland. For more than a decade he crewed and subsequently skippered the DOC vessel GV Southern Winds. During this time he was involved in marine research and monitoring programmes conducted throughout the FMA.
Pete was an original ‘Guardian of Fiordland’, contributing to the development of the Fiordland Marine Conservation Strategy. He was also one of the original instigators of the Fiordland Coastal Cleanup in 2003 that now manages the regular coastal cleanups of both Fiordland and Stewart Island.
